About the role:

YES4Youth, in partnership with Checkers Gauteng North, is excited to offer a dynamic HR internship opportunity. Join one of South Africa's leading retail organisations and launch your HR career in a fast-paced, innovative environment. This internship programme is designed to provide recent HR graduates with practical, hands-on experience while contributing meaningfully to the Checkers Gauteng North HR function.

What you bring:

• A recently completed HR qualification or degree with no experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent organisational and time management abilities
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
• Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping
• A professional, reliable, and trustworthy approach
• Enthusiasm and eagerness to learn in a retail environment
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team
• Problem-solving mindset and willingness to take on new challenges
• A genuine interest in human resources and people management

What you'll do:

• Assist with the onboarding and induction of new employees across multiple store locations
• Maintain and update HR documentation, employee records, and personnel files
• Support payroll, benefits, and leave administration processes
• Assist in coordinating employee training and development programmes
• Help implement HR policies and ensure employee compliance
• Support employee relations activities and address routine HR queries
• Contribute to HR projects and special initiatives as assigned
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to data protection regulations
• Assist with HR reporting and data analysis
• Support the recruitment and selection process, including job advertising, screening CVs, and scheduling interviews

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Essential Requirements:

• Recently completed HR qualification, degree, or equivalent HR qualification
• South African citizen
• Valid driver's license (preferred)
• Willing to travel within the Gauteng North region when required

Desired Qualities:

• Knowledge of South African employment law and labour regulations
• Experience with HR systems or HRIS platforms
• Customer-service oriented mindset
• Understanding of retail industry dynamics
• Strong work ethic and commitment to professional development
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
