We at PPC Slurry factory located in the Northwest Province are looking for a Qualified Production Manager. If you meet the below mentioned qualifications, please apply for the position. Overall Purpose of the Job: The Production Manager is responsible for all planning, leading, organising, and controlling activities in the production of clinker and cement to ensure an optimal, steady and reliable supply of quality goods to customers.
Minimum Requirements
- Qualifications: Minimum: BTech Engineering, BEng, BSc Chemical Engineering or BSc Chemistry (NQF Level 7) Ideal: Postgraduate degree in Engineering (NQF 8) MBA or MDP from a recognised institution
- Legal (e.g., Driver's License, etc.) Minimum Driver’s license Mining Health and Safety Act Legal Appointment 3.1(a) Must have carried a legal appointment as 2.6.1 and 2.14.1 in a previous production environment
Experience
- Relevant management experience as a Production Manager in the Cement industry 5 – 8 years
- Experience in kiln production processes 5 – 8 years
- Experience in a managerial role in a production environment 3 – 5 years
- Proven track record of establishing and maintaining safe and efficient operations within a production environment

Duties and Responsibilities
Mining and Production: Weighting 70%
- Achieve overall reliability targets through product and process efficiencies (OEEs) and optimisation
- Conduct analysis of trends and operate under a continuous improvement model to ensure that the plant operations and product continue to meet the needs of customers
- Direct, plan, or implement policies, objectives, or activities of the plant to ensure continuing operations to maximise returns on investments, or to increase productivity and quality of product
- Interpret the strategic and operational requirements of the plant and manage overall plant production in line with set production targets and Key Performance Indicators
- Maintain a profitable production rate and sustainability of the organisation through developing and implementing appropriate strategies and processes
- Manage the total cost of production with a focus on technical levels i.e. Kcal/kg clinker (fuel), kwh/t (power) and % of AF fuel mix
- Manage the dispatch plan with sales and marketing teams as well as planning and logistics
- Manage the mobile equipment in line with all asset care plans (ACP)
- Manage stock levels and dispatch of materials through the Dispatch team
- Maintain excellence in production data capturing, month-end processing as well as raw material and finished goods stocks
- Ability to work in a team with Mining, Quality, Engineering and HR
- In depth understanding of shut down planning and management. Understanding of refractory management for a cement kiln .
Stakeholder Management and Business Partnerships: Weighting 10%
- Coordinate external contractors where required
- Interpret and communicate the management information, production plans and budgets to the relevant teams and stakeholders with a strong emphasis on plant and equipment efficiency
- Manage relationships with suppliers and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to ensure equipment is in optimal condition and fit for purpose
- Negotiate with internal and external stakeholders to promote the objectives of the Production department.
- Partner with Production, Quality Assurance and Maintenance teams to optimise variable costs in the plant.
- Participate in Process and Production Round Tables
- Resolve internal and external customer complaints and manage all non-conformances of product
Compliance, Governance and Reporting: Weighting 10%
- Enforce adherence to all relevant legislation such as the Mine Health and Safety Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Environmental Act, etc.
- Maintain good plant housekeeping standards to ensure a safe working environment and mitigate risks in line with the organisational SHE policies
- Oversee the appropriate controls to identify and mitigate any financial, reputational, compliance or safety risks to the plant operations
- Maintain product compliance to all relevant external standards, such as ISO or SANS
- Conduct incident investigation and reporting
- Compile all required reports for submission to the relevant teams and government agencies (such as the Environmental Performance Report)
- Maintain good relationships with the DMRE and local communities
People Management: Weighting 5%
- Approve the leave of direct reports and manage overtime where applicable
- Coach and train team members to perform optimally in their roles
- Conduct regular meetings and promote open and ongoing communication with the team
- Confer with and advise subordinates on administrative policies and procedures, technical problems, priorities, and methods
- Manage the performance of direct reports and monitor adherence to expected standards.
- Offer guidance and support and if required take appropriate disciplinary action
- Participate in the selection and appointment of new team members
- Provide direct reports with opportunities for growth and development through on-the-job training and feedback
- Support the onboarding of new team members
Budget Management: Weighting 5%
- Prepare the annual departmental budget for submission to line manager for review and approval
- Approve expenditure within delegation of authority level
- Monitor expenditure against approved budget, reporting on any deviations to the line manager and Finance Department
